In my last months Blog I posed the question “Who am I?”, after looking at a few verses from Scriptures, I came  to the conclusion that we, believers in Jesus Christ, are a redeemed image of Jesus. This month I would like to take another look at who we are. So lets  start again by looking the Scriptures.

No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light.
Luke 8:16

As an Image of Jesus (see my previous blog) we are like him a light shining into the world (John 12:46). However we can choose to hide that light (Luke 8:16), sin is in the world, we live in a fallen world listening to the lies of the crafty serpent, Satan (Genesis 3:1). We have become tarnished by sin, weakened by lies. The world wants us to sink down to its dark level, so that it does not feel so bad. This can seem to be the easier path to follow. Indeed many have, to the point of persecuting those who know Jesus as the redeeming Son of God. It is hard to resist the pull of the world, hard not to conform to the expectations of the world, it is such a “temptation”.

This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.
John 3:19

We are called to “go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19), to shine a light into the darkness. Sin is very uncomfortable at being exposed to the light (the truth), it wants to flee and hide. It knows it is sin, and knows that light will expose it for what it is, a lie. Not even today does anyone want to be called evil, a liar or disobedient, that’s hurtful. To help us God has put the Holy Spirit in all of us and He calls to us not to lie, not to fall short, convicting us of our sin, advising us and strengthening us to do the work of God. So this is who we are, an image of Jesus, because God created us that way, Jesus died and rose again, covered us in HIS righteousness; allowing us to be the very brightest light that He can shine through us.

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
John 8:12

With aid of the Holy Spirit we have the light of life shining through us, so we are not alone, 175525585or  in our own strength, The Holy Spirit does it for us he shines through us; we are only the vessel, a clay jar filled with His Spirit (2 Corinthians 4:7) and that is how it must be. In other words if we try to stand in our strength, we will shine a false light, and we will have had our reward here on earth where it will fade and rust, instead of bringing us eternal joy. Scriptures says we are created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26-27), so in an answer to the original question, I can confidently say we are an image of God, because that is what God created us to be, not what we have chosen to be.  We are part of a “Royal Priesthood” (2 Peter 2:9), and an adopted heir and a co-heir with Jesus (Romans 8:17) and one day we will be seated at the right hand of God with Jesus (Colossians 3:1). And you know what, this not because of anything we have done, It is an ABSOLUTLEY free gift Jesus gave us when He died for OUR sins, then rose again to eternal life. AMEN and Hallelujah!
